Bring me solutions, not problems

thatcher.jpg“Bring me solutions, not problems” is a phrase that former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was well known for using.

It’s so easy for people to moan and for many, it’s a habit. Managers need to train their staff not to only moan. Sure they can still have their whinge, but insist that if they bring you a problem, they must also suggest a solution.

I know this sounds like teaching a bunch of 12 year olds but let’s face it, even the most high profile projects have their share of habitual moaners.

TIP: If someone tells you that something is wrong, you can respond; “and what would you like me to do about it?”

Shirley Hufsteddler wrote; “You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.”
